Dr. Mark E. Davis, the Warren and Katharine Schlinger Professor of
Chemical Engineering, will be giving a presentation on the path of
taking an idea from the lab to the biotech company and, finally, FDA
trials. His nanoparticle drug delivery therapy is currently in FDA
trials at City of Hope. Professor Davis will also be speaking about
the process of setting up and running a biotech company from his
experience as a founder of Insert Therapeutics and Calando
Pharmaceuticals.

From 4 to 5 p.m. on November 8, in 24 Beckman Labs (BBB), Leonard Nelson,
from the nonprofit organization The Least Among Us, will present a talk
called "The Opportunity to Make a Difference: The Challenges and
Lessons Learned from Starting and Managing a Nonprofit." The Least
Among Us is dedicated to improving the educational infrastructure in
rural El Salvador. Nelson's talk will focus on the use of comparative
advantages to succeed, strategies and branding for new organizations,
and education and technology in the developing world.
BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees - often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.
